Job Description

Role Overview:

As a Data and AI Engineering lead, you will lead, scale, and mature high-performing Data & AI engineering team that design, build, and operationalise reliable, secure, and scalable data pipelines and AI solutions. You will set the architecture and engineering patterns, frameworks, roadmaps and ways of working to deliver sustainable solutions that support Fidelity Life’s Winning Aspiration and strategy.

The role ensures alignment between business strategy, data architecture, and engineering execution, while fostering a culture of accountability, AI enabled innovations, and continuous improvement.

You will provide data architecture and engineering leadership across BAU and change delivery, guiding Fidelity Life toward a modern cloud-based target-state architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a diverse team of data engineers and data platforms specialists. Drive workforce planning, hiring and performance management for the team members
  • Define the architectural strategy and roadmap for the data and analytics domain with business stakeholders, partners, and technology leaders
  • Partner with the Technology Leaders and leadership team to define AI engineering practices and standards, in use across all domains
  • Make Data Platform decisions that enable other domains (digital, policy and claims administration, finance and actuarial, reporting, pricing, underwriting), by partnering with the relevant Technology leaders
  • Lead quarterly change delivery, aligning stakeholders to deliver efficiently and effectively
  • Design the platform roadmap for optimal cost outcomes, champion simplification and optimisation
  • Build relationships across the business to align delivery to strategic goals

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems, data management, or a related field.
  • 10-15 years proven experience in data engineering, data architecture, data platforms, or related roles, with a strong emphasis on modern cloud data architectures and streaming platforms.
  • Relevant Data Engineering or Architect certifications such as Microsoft/AWS/Google certified data engineer or architect are a plus.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience in delivering innovative data and AI solutions to business that improve employee and customer experience and helps senior leadership in effective decision making 
  • Extensive experience with event-driven architectures and domain-driven design to create loosely coupled, scalable data solutions 
  • Proven delivery of data roadmaps that enable whole-of-business transformation 
  • Hands-on experience with event streaming and messaging platforms 
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, Lakehouse medallion architecture and Spark; strong SQL and Python skills 
  • Advanced experience in designing and engineering generative and agentic AI solutions is a plus 
  • Advanced skills applying an AI-first engineering approach (e.g., GitHub Copilot) 
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Proven leader with an ability to manage risk and lead significant organisational change 
  • Excellent communication, coaching and listening skills across all organisational levels 
  • Collaborative and adaptable; able to manage multiple workstreams with strong organisation and time management 
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management (internal and external)
