Job Description

Role Overview:

The Payroll & HR Consultant is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the organisation’s payroll functions and benefits administration. The role ensures payroll is processed accurately, compliantly, and on time, and that remuneration and benefit decisions are correctly and efficiently translated into payroll outcomes. The role provides high-quality advice to leaders and employees, maintains strong governance and data integrity, and drives continuous improvement across payroll, reward, and HR systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Management

  • Key liaison with payroll partner for all payroll documentation. Securely store all information for pay instructions, changes and approvals.
  • Ensure payroll is on time and accurate. Payroll issues and queries are dealt with professionally and accurately.
  • Administer and reconcile ACC payments
  • Check and 1st approve for all pay-runs. Ensure 2nd final approval is sought to complete the pay-run.
  • Administration close-off of pay-runs and payments procedures. Ensure Finance team facilitate payments for our pay-runs.
  • Field and resolve employee queries regarding payroll. Manage the Payroll Inbox and monitor the People Team Inbox for payroll related questions.
  • Ensure there is a back-up for Payroll

Remuneration Framework

  • Support the development, maintenance, and continual improvement of remuneration frameworks, policies, and guidelines to ensure fair, consistent, and market-competitive reward outcomes
  • Contribute to the annual remuneration review process, including salary reviews, incentive reviews, budgeting, and governance signoffs
  • Support internal pay equity, role relativities, and job evaluation processes to ensure consistency and compliance

Market Benchmarking & Analysis

  • Lead remuneration benchmarking using external market survey data (e.g. EY REMonTAP and industry surveys)
  • Provide evidence-based remuneration advice for new roles, role changes, promotions, and retention decisions
  • Prepare clear, commercially focused remuneration insights and recommendations for senior leaders

Benefits & Incentives

  • Manage the design, administration, and review of employee benefits and allowances (e.g. insurances, KiwiSaver, incentives, and other value exchanges)
  • Support and track short-term incentive design, eligibility, and payment processes
  • Evaluate benefits uptake and effectiveness and recommend enhancements aligned to the EVP

Systems, Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate remuneration and benefits data within the HRIS
  • Partner with HRIS and Payroll to ensure remuneration data integrity and cyclical process readiness.
  • Conduct regular audits between HRIS and payroll systems to maintain data integrity
  • Develop and deliver regular remuneration reporting, insights, and dashboards for leaders and governance forums.

HR Coordination

  • Advise employees on all aspects of Parental Leave and manage the parental leave process. Ensure our policies remain up to date and in line with legislation and best practice in market.
  • Facilitate the employee service awards process.
  • Complete other HR Projects as required in conjunction with the HR Operations Lead

Desired Skills and Experience

What We’re Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or a related discipline, is advantageous but not essential.

Experience:

  • Extensive Payroll experience and strong knowledge of NZ Employment and payroll legislation including Holidays Act
  • Experience supporting salary reviews, incentives, and role evaluation

  • Process discipline with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Clear, professional communication
